1. Web3 Storytelling | How StoryCo Plans To Shake Up Hollywood
Web3 storytelling solves two enormous problems in Hollywood:
1️⃣ A lack of original story production.
2️⃣ Diluted creator ownership.
It's no secret - we're in an original content drought. With fewer unique stories being created and shared, it can feel like creativity itself is running dry.
👉 But it's not the creators' fault...
It's the studios who are unwilling to take risks on new ideas. 👀
If you have an original idea without a built-in fanbase, buckle up!
👉 Because your road ahead will be BUMPY.
Studios see investments in adaptions of existing IP as safer bets. 🙄
Creators also get shafted out of ownership these days. Streamers overpay for content and gain complete ownership over IP, thereby eliminating backend payment. Creators miss out on a huge opportunity to make money from their creations.
Web3 technologies are shaking up the world of media ownership and allowing creatives to shine.
It's a new era for content production!
A world where communities own story assets, participate in story creation, and share in the spoils.
A world where the line between communities and creators blurs into nothingness.
This is the promise of StoryCo's immersive storytelling project, "The Disco Ball."
The team partnered with Emmy-nominated writer Kyle Killen to create an original story universe.
It's a space odyssey that follows Captain Alma Cooke and her team of astronauts aboard the international space station. They are thrust into an existential journey across dimensions.
But here's the cool thing...
Community members will work collectively to:
solve puzzles, and
participate in digital and real-world experiences.
⬆️ All of which will push the story forward.
After the Disco Ball narrative ends, the community will assume creative control and decide what happens next.
🎫 Your ticket into this world is a free Disco Ball StoryPass NFT.
The NFT gives you the following:
Power over the project's treasury (💰 from NFT sales, IP licensing, royalties).
Half of all net revenue.
And StoryCo's gas tank is far from empty...
👉 They recently secured a $6M seed round. 🤑
The more projects we see, like StoryCo, the better Web3 will be.
Web3 storytelling is the future.
2. The Tribeca Film Festival Offers NFT Tickets
Get ready for film festivals to hop aboard the Web3 train.
The Tribeca Film Festival is teaming up with crypto exchange OKX to provide movie-goers access to all the hottest screenings, parties, and events.
👉 But this isn't your typical pass...
These passes will be sold as NFTs. 🤯
💥 Boom - this is awesome.
NFTs are changing the ticketing industry as we know it!
They bring together three important qualities:
2️⃣ collectibility, and
NFT tickets facilitate your entry into an event, all while possessing the aesthetic quality that invites collectibility. They also exist on an immutable blockchain and provide unparalleled security features that protect against illegitimate tickets.
Tribeca is pioneering in this space.
Their NFT ticket offering is presented in a user-friendly way - catering to both normies and OGs...
You can purchase the NFT in either USD or ETH.
Tribeca provides a minting tutorial created by OKX.
You can take custody of your NFT ticket by transferring it to your crypto wallet (thank goodness).
The tickets themselves unlock a ton of value, including:
Entry to the Awards Ceremony attended by Robert De Niro.
Entry for two into (1) screening and after party.
Entry into (1) Tribeca Talks event and reception.
Entry into an exclusive Web3 cocktail hour.
Plus, tons more...
BTW - these tickets ain't cheap. 👀
👉 One NFT will run ya $899 (or .6 ETH).
(but that seems on par with the price of film festival all-access passes)
I love that Tribeca is embracing Web3 technology. I wouldn't be surprised if they also issue their awards as NFTs. Filmmakers need award certificates that exist on-chain and last forever!
I don't want to get greedy, though. I'll take the NFT tickets for now.
Massive props to Tribeca. 👏🏼
This is bullish news! 🎬💯
3. Monday Motivation | How To Increase Your Public Speaking Skillz
Years of giving ghost tours taught me the secrets to public speaking.
(and damn, was I good)
Try these 4 tricks to become a kickass public speaker:
1️⃣ Start With Some Sauce:
Jazz the people up from the beginning.
👉 First impressions are vital. Your audience needs to know that the next hour will be entertaining.
I'd crank my energy to 100 for the first 5 minutes when giving tours - putting my showmanship on display from the jump.
2️⃣ Own the Silence:
Using silence strategically is a creative way to create drama and raise the stakes.
👉 Sometimes, that uncomfortable stillness can make people sit up straight in anticipation of what will come next.
When giving ghost tours, I'd intentionally pause before a spooky reveal.
Eye contact is crucial too. I'd make eye contact with every guest during the silence to add personalized suspense. 👀
3️⃣ Adjust Your Volume:
Here's the secret...
👉 Get quiet for a setup.
👉 Get loud for a payoff.
You want your audience to lean in when you take your volume down. That's how you know they're hanging on every word.
And then when they're nice and close...
💥 BAM 💥
Hit 'em with the punchline!
It works every time. 💯
4️⃣ Own the Room:
It doesn't matter if you're on a stage or in a small room - own it.
Walk around with confidence - like a boss.
You'll exude authority, and the people will love it.
Follow these 4 tips, and you’ll give kickass speeches in any environment.
(PS - here’s a video from one of my ghost tours if you want to see me in action 😉)
4. Doodles Buy An Animation Studio
Doodles purchased the Emmy-nominated animation studio Golden Wolf. 🎬🤯
Doodles burst onto the scene in 2021 with NFTs based on characters created by the artist Burnt Toast (a.k.a. Scott Martin).
👉 This NFT project quickly became a full-blown franchise of animations, games, music, and merchandise.
And you know what? They're just getting started!
With their recent acquisition, Doodles' original content game is about to go crazy. 📈
Fused with irreverent humor and intense action, Golden Wolf produced standouts like Rick & Morty for Adult Swim. They've also worked with Disney, Illumination Entertainment, Nike, and Facebook.
(they clearly pass the vibe check)
💡 Doodles will inevitably delve into original long-form animated series development.
They're putting their new-found capital to WORK.
Late last year, Doodles secured a massive $54 million funding at a staggering $704 million valuation.
VC funding is a polarizing topic amongst NFT communities.
👉 On the one hand, additional funding gives NFT brands capital to deploy on storytelling assets like animations and comic books.
👉 But on the other hand, many believe VC funding reduces the ownership power of NFT holders.
I fall on the side of the former. 🤷♂️
Projects must create reliable revenue streams outside of selling NFTs to grow into entertainment brands without funding. I'm still waiting to see an NFT project pull that off. So, for now, VC funding is necessary for leveling up.
📈 The Golden Wolf acquisition is fantastic news.
The NFT space needs a project to break out into mainstream entertainment pipelines, so the world can see the potential of NFT projects.
And Doodles is in an excellent position to make it happen.
5. Tweet of the Week
A reminder to NFT collectors everywhere:
🚨 No one is safe from the threats of malicious phishing scams.
Even OG trailblazer Kevin Rose couldn't escape being scammed out of a whopping $1.1 million in NFTs!
So stay vigilant, get some wallet security and watch your back — it could happen to you just like it did him if you're not careful.
That’s a wrap for today. See y’all next week! If that’s too long to wait (it probably is), be sure to follow me on Twitter (@BrendanBald)
