1. Seth Green and Steve Aoki Team Up for a Web3 Animated Short Film
Ready for something unique?
Steve Aoki (the DJ who throws cakes at people) and Seth Green (Dr. Evil's son) are teaming up to give NFT holders the power to shape an animated short film. It’s titled "Dominion X" and will stream on Shibuya, the Web3 video platform from the artist, pplpleasr.
How's this going to work, exactly?
Well, the film needs a six-week production schedule with one scene filmed per week. Before production on the next scene begins, NFT holders will vote on the ending (community participation FTW). It'll all bundle up into a single stop-motion animated short film streamable on Shibuya.
Never heard of Shibuya?
They're taking streaming into the future - combining blockchain with all of Web3's power to give fans a groundbreaking experience. Not only can fans access fantastic content, but creators now have more freedom to monetize their work and build deeper connections with those who appreciate it most!
💰 And Shibuya's pockets ain't empty.
Last year they raised $6.9 million from well-known investors, including Kevin Durant and Paris Hilton.
👉 This'll be Shibuya's 2nd Web3 film. Their first was a 7-minute animated film titled "White Rabbit."
Let’s talk about Web3 content for a second…
Web3 doesn't need content.
💡 It needs GOOD content - desperately.
The vision for Web3 entertainment is clear. We want a decentralized, community-first approach to content. But, despite the purity of the vision, if the content sucks, nobody will watch it. The entertainment assets that come out of Web3 need to be just as good, if not better, than their Web2 counterparts.
It's a high bar, but let's see what Aoki and Green can do!
Here’s a short trailer. The NFTs are available on secondary, and story voting begins on February 8th.
I’ve got my eye on this one. 👀
2. Metaverse Super Bowl Concert 🤯
The NFL is teaming up with Roblox for an epic virtual concert experience at this year's Super Bowl!
And the performer?
Saweetie!
She’ll grace the Roblox stage with her songs and realistic motion-captured moves.
👉 The virtual experience was built by Saweetie’s label, Warner Music Group.
Is this bullish news for Web3?
Eh - not really. 🤷♂️
Roblox isn’t a Web3 platform. Meaning this virtual concert has nothing to do with NFTs or blockchain technology. It’s just a virtual performance within a gaming platform.
However, I have a sliver of bullishness here. 🤏
Two massive entertainment juggernauts (The NFL and Warner Music) teamed up with a gaming platform. This shows that the sports and music industries are taking this whole Metaverse thing seriously.
It’s important to realize that the Metaverse is not the same thing as Web3.
Web3 = decentralized internet built on blockchains.
Metaverse = a massively scaled and interoperable network of real-time rendered 3D virtual worlds.
They can technically exist without each other.
But, I believe that Web3 tech will eventually permeate most gaming platforms. The immutability and transparency of blockchains seem like a natural fit for developers and users in the future Metaverse economy.
These Metaverse concerts aren’t really my thing, though. 🤷
Nonetheless, I’m curious to see how Roblox users respond.
3. Monday Motivation | The Power of Self-Awareness When Starting a New Job
Starting a new job can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming.
👉 I started a new job last week and am experiencing these emotions firsthand.
When you start a new gig, you have to:
learn new processes,
meet new people, and
figure out how you fit into a new team.
It's a lot to take in and can easily make you feel like a fish out of water.
That's why self-awareness is so critical when starting a new job.
What Is Self-Awareness?
Self-awareness is the ability to understand yourself:
your skills and abilities,
your strengths and weaknesses, and
your personality traits.
Why Self-Awareness Is So Important:
When you’re aware of your own skills and tendencies, you better understand where you can best provide value in your role (and where you may need help).
You'll also better pinpoint the causes of your anxieties and stresses, reducing dwelling and drastically improving your mental health.
It Can Take Time To Develop Self-Awareness:
Self-awareness isn't a light switch - you can't turn it on instantly.
👉 It takes time to develop.
I didn’t have a solid grasp on self-awareness until I hit 30. So give yourself grace.
However, there are some things that you can do when you start a new job that'll help speed things up...
Take personal responsibility for success or failure – This will help you identify your weaknesses.
Ask questions – Asking questions allows you to gain insight into your perspective.
Reflect – Taking time each day (or week) for reflection and introspection will help you gain clarity around your emotions.
💡 Self-awareness is the most essential skill anyone starting a new job can possess.
Understanding yourself makes navigating work situations easier and sets you up for success in your new role!
4. Tweet of the Week
Twitter is fueled up and ready for BLAST OFF. 🚀
👉 Elon Musk announced that Twitter is now sharing ad revenue with creators who subscribe to Twitter Blue.
This is a genius way to attract creators to the platform.
📈 I'm insanely BULLISH on this move.
Bravo, Elon. 👏
Imagine what would happen if they brought back Vine? 🤯
That’s a wrap for today. See y’all next week! If that’s too long to wait (it probably is), be sure to follow me on Twitter (@BrendanBald)
